BRECKENRIDGE-Major decisions by Owen Bjerga and Jasiah Paskewitz pushed the second-seeded Staples-Motley Cardinals to a13-11 deficit against the top-seeded West Central Knights after six matches in Friday's Section 6-1A team finals.
Then fourth-ranked West Central ripped off four consecutive pins to put the match out of reach on its way to a 43-28 win and the title.
In the final four matches, Braden Tyrell and Kyle Serich recorded pins and Alex Erpelding won by technical fall for the 12th-ranked Cardinals.
Serich's overtime decision and a late pin from Erpelding helped the Cardinals hold off a hard charging No. 3 Barnesville in the semifinal round for a 36-30 victory.
S-M build a 27-0 lead thanks to six straight wins to open the match. Payton Bjerga, Owen Bjerga and Paskewitz each scored pins. Then it was Barnesville's turn to pin some points on their side of the board.

Three-straight pins and a decision helped it cut S-M's lead to 27-21. Erpelding's 1:02 pin helped stopped the bleeding before Serich sealed the win at heavyweight with his win.
