Area Wrestling: Raiders 5th, Wolverines 8th in Park Region Tournament

LONG PRAIRIE — Undefeated Craig Orlando from Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie and Wadena-Deer Creek’s Cody Wheeler won individual titles at the Park Region Conference Tournament Saturday, Feb. 1.

The BHVPP Raiders placed fifth and the W-DC Wolverines were eighth in the team standings. Long Prairie-Grey Eagle won the nine-team tournament.

Orlando won all three of his matches and improved his season record to 35-0. He pinned Royalton-Upsala’s Mason Novitz in 23 seconds for the heavyweight championship.

The Raiders picked up second-place finishes from Dan Revering at 106 and Deagan Captain at 113. Mason Schroeder went 3-1 to finish third at 160.

Wheeler claimed the 182 title by injury default 23 seconds into his match with LPGE’s Caleb Pesta.

Mason Snyder (126) and Logan Wegscheid (220) won third-place matches for WDC.

Grand Rapids 32, Aitkin 30

GRAND RAPIDS — Nathan Stifter and Sam Ostrode won by pins for the Aitkin Gobblers in a 32-30 non-conference loss to Grand Rapids Saturday, Feb. 1.

Carson Kullhem scored a 19-4 technical fall for the Gobblers and Hunter Hill won by a major decision.

Pierz places 7th in tournament

ST. PAUL — Trevor Radunz, Riley Hoskins, Tanner Young and Brandon Schlegel all placed second for the Pierz Pioneers who finished seventh as a team at the St. Croix Lutheran Invitational Saturday, Feb. 1.

Young improved his season record to 28-3 and Radunz is 34-6.
