CASS LAKE-Staples-Motley's Owen Bjerga captured the area's lone individual championship at the 39-team Big Bear Tournament Saturday, Dec. 15.
After a first-round bye, Bjerga won his next four matches with two pins, a technical fall and a decision on his way to the title at 160 pounds. His teammate, Spencer Miller, placed second at 152 helping the Cardinals to a 22nd-place finish in the 39-team tournament.
Pierz's Jake Andres also placed second at 126 pounds to lead the Pioneers to ninth.
Eighth-place Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie was led by Craig Orlando's third-place showing at 285.
Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus finished 15th with jake Poehler's fourth-place finish leading the way.

Quinn Miller was eighth at 160 for Aitkin, which finished 29th. John Fitzpatrick (113) and Nate Williams (138) both finished eighth for Crosby-Ironton (31st) and 34th-place Wadena-Deer Creek was paced by eighth-place finisher Cody Wheeler at 170.

Flyers sweep Quad
WHITE BEAR LAKE-Austin Litke, Aiden St. Onge, Gabe Nagel, Grant Litke and Sam Nagel all went 3-0 for the Little Falls Flyers who swept all three of their matches at the White Bear Lake Quadrangular Friday, Dec. 14.
The Flyers defeated Cretin-Derham Hall 63-9, White Bear Lake 37-34 and Irondale 54-21 improving their record to 5-4.
