Mikayla Houdek and Alex Loukinen were named the Little Falls Flyers September athletes of the month.

Houdek is a junior who played for the Flyers girls soccer team.

“Mikayla has been a phenomenally hard worker for the girls soccer team,” Flyers head girls soccer coach Scott Orians said. “This is her third year as a starter. She works hard on her game, is very coachable, and doesn't give up on anything. She will play wherever she is asked and always gives her all. Mikayla was second on the team in scoring and she led the team in assists this season.

“Mikayla is also a great, positive person. I have never heard her say anything negative to a teammate or about a teammate. She is a great representative of Flyer Pride on our team.”

Loukinen was a senior on the Flyers boys soccer team.

“Alex displays character, integrity, and a work ethic that is unparalleled,” Flyers head boys soccer coach Chris Backhaus said. “He's one of those unsung heroes who elevates the play of others around him, not only in matches, but in practice as well.

“He's a team captain who regularly interacts with the officials respectfully and always maintains a level head when others around him might be swayed by the emotions of the moment. He's the first teammate to take the initiative to voluntarily check-in on the physical and mental health of his teammates, whether they play junior varsity or varsity. He's extremely knowledgeable about the game of soccer and, despite an intuitive grasp of skill and tactics, he remains humble and coachable.”
