It was not a good day to play two for the Brainerd Warriors.

For starters, temperatures were in the low to mid-40s despite a bright, sunny Wednesday. Then the Warriors got swept in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader by the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles 12-4 and 7-5 at Adamson Field.

In the two games, Brainerd committed seven errors and left 15 runners on base, eight in scoring position. The Warriors let Apollo rally for the win in the opener. In Game Two, Brainerd fell behind 7-0 and rallied late but its comeback fell short.

"It was not a good day," Warriors coach Lowell Scearcy said. "We'll try to rebound and play well (Thursday)."

Brainerd is scheduled to play Roseville at CHS Field, new home of the St. Paul Saints, on Thursday.

Game Two

Apollo 7, Warriors 5

Cooper Gray, Hunter Blommer, Ben Alvord and Ben Nelson each had two hits for the Eagles who needed three pitchers to preserve the win.

Taylor Streiff hit a 2-run homer in the Brainerd seventh and was the only Warrior to collect two hits. The Warriors had the tying run at the plate with two out in the seventh but struck out to end the game.

The home team in Game Two, the Eagles struck immediately for two runs in the bottom of the first on a throwing error and Michael Tiede's sacrifice fly.

Gray's 2-run single in the second put Apollo up 4-0. A wild pitch in the third, a throwing error in the fourth and Tiede's RBI single in the fourth vaulted Apollo in front 7-0.

Tory Miller's RBI single in the fifth scored the Warriors' first run but Brainerd left the bases loaded.

The Warriors added two runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk and bases-loaded hit batsman but again left the bases loaded.
