Coming off a 3-1 weekend in St. Cloud, Brainerd Legion returned home and lost to Duluth East 11-6 Wednesday, June 30, at Mills Field.
Duluth East scored two in the first off Brainerd starter Riley DeRosier. The lead mounted to 7-0 in the top of the fourth with Adam Jensen giving up all five runs in the inning.
Brainerd cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. All of Brainerd’s runs in the inning came on bases-loaded walks to make it 7-4.
Adam Kleinschmidt pitched 3.2 innings for Bainerd and allowed just one earned run.
Brainerd scored one in the fifth on an Eli Roberts RBI single. Roberts was the only Brainerd hitter to tally two hits.

Carter Springer tallied two RBIs for Brainerd including a run-scoring groundout in the eighth which made it 11-6.
Andrew Zuk, Matt Karlson, Jensen and Cayden Kleffman all tallied hits for Brainerd in the loss.
Duluth East ripped 10 hits off Brainerd pitchers and benefitted from six Brainerd errors in the field to help them secure the win.
“I would not say it was our best performance that’s for sure,” Brainerd Legion coach Dave Peterson said. “There were probably a few too many errors and quite a few too many walks, but we are still trying to figure out who’s going to be pitching and moving around with positions.”

Brainerd Legion goes 3-1 in St. Cloud over weekend
ST. CLOUD — Brainerd Legion compiled three wins in four games at the St. Cloud Tournament June 24-27.

In Game One, Adam Jensen earned the win for Brainerd as they dispatc
hed of Waite Park 9-7. Jensen pitched 4.2 innings and struck out five.
Cayden Kleffman and Riley DeRosier each led Brainerd with two hits apiece. DeRosier tallied two RBIs in the win as well. Matt Karlson tallied a two-run single in Game One.
Will Carlson earned the save in the Game One and pitched 0.2 innings.
In Game Two, Carlson ripped a double as Brainerd fell to Rogers 8-7. Carlson went 4-4 with two RBIs against Rogers and Karlson went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Brainerd scored three in the top of the sixth to make it 8-7 after being down 6-2 after three innings.
Brainerd compiled 12 hits total against Rogers in the loss.
In Game Three, Brainerd tallied 12 hits again in its 10-1 win over Andover. Kleffman was the hot hitter in Game Three and racked up four hits in five trips and three RBIs in the win.
DeRosier also tallied three RBIs against Andover.

Isaac Hanson ripped two doubles and Jake Miller also had a double for Brained in the win.
Carter Springer pitched a complete game and struck out five to earn the win.
Springer followed up his pitching performance in Game Three with a 4-4 game in Game Four as Brainerd beat Wayzata 14-2 to round out the tournament.
Springer finished the game with a double and four RBIs. Kleffman and Carlson also tallied two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Brainerd notched 11 hits in the weekend finale and Andrew Zuk earned the win with four innings pitched and two strikeouts.
“I think we have played pretty well,” Peterson said. “Two of our losses have been by one run and we probably should’ve won those. They’ve been playing great as a whole.”
