Baseball: Brewers bounce Bees twice

The Brainerd Bees opened the Section 2B playoffs against the Moorhead Brewers.

FARGO — The Brainerd Bees received two complete-game pitching performances, but couldn’t capitalize as they fell to the top-seeded Moorhead Brewers 4-0 and 4-1 in the opening round of the Section 2B playoffs Saturday, Aug. 6.

In the opener, Eli Roberts finished 2-3 and Phil Zynda went 2-4 for Brainerd. Kyle Baker suffered the loss. He pitched a complete game and allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits. He struck out five.

In Game Two, Eric martin struck out five over nine innings. He allowed four runs, just one earned, on seven hits.

Tom Fairbanks went 2-4 with a double and RBI. Zynda went 2-3 with Brainerd’s lone run.

Brainerd falls to 6-13 and moves into the single-elimination loser’s bracket where it will face the Moorhead Mudcats at noon Saturday, Aug. 13, in Sobieski. The winner of that game will face Sobieski at 2:30. The winner of that game will secure the final state tournament slot.
