Baseball: Rebels rally for win over Lightning

FORT RIPLEY -- A double by Tyler Wittwer scored a run and with a 2-0 lead in the second inning, the Nisswa Lightning seemed on their way to extending their winning ways.

The Fort Ripley Rebels had different ideas as they scored the next eight runs, led by Brad Waytashek who went 2-4 with two RBIs in an 8-2 win for Fort Ripley Sunday.

Ethan Branum struck out five in getting the win.

Jason Roepke pitched four complete innings gave up two runs and suffered the loss.

Buckman 3, Royalton 1

BUCKMAN - Ben Boser's double in the bottom of the fifth brought in the go-ahead run in a 3-1 victory for Buckman Sunday.

Boser's sacrifice fly tied the game at one in the third inning and the Billygoats scored twice in the fifth.

Mark and Travis Kahl each knocked out two hits for Buckman, while Brady Moulzoff went 2-5 for the Riverdogs.

Lastrup 10, St. Wendel 2

PIERZ - Brandon Lochner scored a run with a groundout in the third, and an RBI double in the fifth to lead the Lastrup Lakers to a 10-2 win over St. Wendel Sunday.

Rick Schlieman's double scored three runs for the Lakers in the bottom of the eighth as he finished 2-5. Paul Herman, Curt Caughey and Nate Janson also had two hits for Lastrup.

Taylor Nitz paced the Saints with two hits, and Hunter Bloomer and Beau Maciej also doubled.

Cuyuna Range 7, Opole 5

CROSBY - Luke Zontelli picked up two hits while driving in two runs as the Cuyuna Range Miners moved into the win column with a 7-5 win over Opole Sunday.

Dillon Solid was the winner in relief for the Miners.

Zontelli and Austin Krohn picked up two hits each for the Miners.

Tim Huls went 2-5 for the Bears, and Zach Bialka went 2-4 with a double.

Randall 9, St. Mathias 2

RANDALL - Pete Herman went 2-3 with a home run and Dusty Parker finished 3-3 with a double to lead the Randall Cubs to a 9-2 win over St. Mathias Sunday.

Kyle Peterschick pitched five innings and struck out six to get the win. Jordan Hunstad gave up five runs in five innings and took the loss.

Zach Heidmann and Brandon Owen each had two hits for the Devils.

Lastrup 6, Bulldogs 4

PIERZ - In a sloppy, rainy game, Chad Weiss completed his complete-game win with a strikeout as the Lastrup Lakers defeated the Pierz Bulldogs 6-4 Sunday.

Brandon Kiel tripled twice for the Bulldogs but was stranded on third to end the game.

Reggie Litke went 2-4 to lead the Lakers, while Kiel finished 4-4 with two triples and two runs scored for the Bulldogs. Drew Elness of Pierz also had two hits and two RBIs.

Bulldogs 2, Brewers 0

PIERZ - Brad Meyer of the Pierz Bulldogs and Mike Poser of the Pierz Brewers each put zeroes on the scoreboard for seven innings in rainy conditions in a 2-0 win for the Bulldogs Sunday night.

A two-out single from Ryan Foreman gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first and a sacrifice fly from Curt Meyer made it 2-0 in the eighth.

Meyer gave up just two hits and struck out 12 to get the win. Poser also pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.
