MOORHEAD-Jake Meyer, Tristan Brecht and Braydon Borg had the only Brainerd hits as the Warriors opened the season with a 5-2 loss to the Moorhead Spuds in a Section 8-4A game Tuesday.
Moorhead scored all of its runs in the sixth on five hits and three Warrior errors.
Hanson Devine started and took the loss for Brainerd. In 5.1 innings, he allowed five runs (4 earned) and six hits, struck out eight and walked one. Jack Geraets pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit.
Meyer led off the game with a single and advanced to third with one out but the Warriors hit into a double play.
In the Brainerd fourth, the Warriors loaded the bases with one out but the next two batters struck out.

Brainerd scored both of its runs in the seventh. The first two Warriors walked and Borg followed with an RBI single. One out later, Allen Jevning's sacrifice fly scored the second Warrior run. Brainerd had the bases loaded with two out but popped up to end the game.
Brecht's infield hit in the fourth was the only other Warrior hit.
