ST. MICHAEL - Tory Miller pitched a complete game and Hayden Bukowski went 3-for-4 to help the No. 4 Brainerd Warriors bump off top-seeded St. Michael-Albertville 7-2 in the winners' bracket of the Section 8-3A tournament Thursday.

Tristan Brecht was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs and Tory Miller was 2-5 as Brainerd stormed into Monday's winners' bracket at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud. The Warriors will play the No. 2 Bemidji/No. 6 Alexandria winner at a time to be determined. Bemidji and Alexandria were postponed by rain Thursday until 5 p.m. Friday at Bemidji.

"Hayden's on a roll right now," Warriors coach Lowell Scearcy said. "Tristan hit the ball real hard twice both to left fied. Tory got a couple singles - we kept things going. We bunted well. We bunted three times and all three times it was good. It was just one of those days where things turned out right.

"Knock on wood. I think we're hitting the ball better than we have during the year. Hopefully we're on a roll at the right time."

Miller finished with a 7-hitter. He struck out six, walked only one and allowed no earned runs. The Knights entered the game 17-5 and ranked seventh in Class 3A

"Tory pitched really well," Scearcy said. "They've got some good hitters, they've got a good lineup, especially the first five guys. We never did get their leadoff hitter out.

"He did a good job. He had to change speeds a lot against these guys. It was a real strong-pitched game against a very good team."

Leading just 4-2 after six, the Warriors tacked on three runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Evan Brecht, RBI squeeze bunt by Jaden Miller and RBI groundout by Logan Madsen.

The Knights scored their only runs in the sixth before Miller closed the door in the seventh.

"I was kind of wondering if Tory could go all the way," Scearcy said. "About the fifth, we started talking about having someone ready because he hasn't pitched a lot. But he hung in there. They got a couple hits in the sixth but in the seventh he was real strong again."
