ST. MATHIAS -- Jeremiah Piepkorn belted a pair of homers and Sam Peterson blasted a grand slam to lead the Nisswa Lightning over the St. Mathias Devils 13-2 in seven innings Saturday, July 6, in a North Division game that wrapped up the regular season for both teams.

Piepkorn finished 4-4 with a four RBIs and scored four runs. Peterson was 2-5 with four RBIs. Jason Roepke and Adam Hardy each singled twice.

St. Mathias was led by Konnor Wicklund who went 2-3 and drove in both Devils’ runs. David Benson contributed a triple.

Nisswa enters the North Division playoffs as the No. 2 seed with an 8-3 record. The Lightning will face third-seeded Aitkin in the opening round. St. Mathias finishes 2-9.

Fort Ripley 4, Avon 1

FORT RIPLEY -- Fort Ripley’s Zach Heidmann went 2-2, the only player for either team with multiple hits, in the Rebels 4-1 win over the Avon Lakers Saturday, July 6, in a match-up of regular season Division Champions.

Both teams entered the contest with 9-1 records and guaranteed spots in the upcoming Region 8C Tournament. Fort Ripley will be the No. 1 seed in the North Division playoffs and Avon is top-seeded in the East.

Rebels starter Ethan Branum pitched four hitless, shutout innings before giving the mound to Brett Kramer who earned the win. Kramer struck out five and allowed one hit over two innings. Heidmann and Mac Brink mopped up the final three innings.

Brian Skluzacek, Nick Jelacie, Logan Kallis and Rob Veith each drove in a run for the Rebels who scattered nine hits amongst eight players.

Sobieski 5, Flensburg 1

SOBIESKI -- Dan Marod ripped a pair of homers for the Sobieski Skis in a 5-1 victory over the Flensburg Falcons in the first of two games against the West Division foe Saturday, July 6.

Marod and Tyler Jendro led off the bottom of the seventh with solo home runs that broke a scoreless tie. Marod hit his second round-tripper, a three-run blast, in the bottom of the eighth.

Jake Kapphahn earned the win for the Skis. He struck out six and allowed four hits over seven scoreless innings.

Sobieski 10, Flensburg 1

SOBIESKI -- Thomas Miller tossed six shutout innings to earn the win for the Sobieski Skis who completed their doubleheader sweep of the Flensburg Falcons with a 10-1 win Saturday, July 6.

Dan Marod belted his third homer of the day for the Skis and leads the team with eight round trippers. Unfortunately for the Skis, he will miss the playoffs as he undergoes a season-ending shoulder surgery Monday to repair a torn labrum.

Chris Reller finished 3-5 with three RBIs for Sobieski and Miller was 2-6 with a pair of RBIs.

Sobieski finishes the regular season with the best record in the West Division, but will move up to Class B for the playoffs. Upsala, 9-4, will get the No. 1 seed for the West playoffs and will face fourth-seeded Flensburg in the opening round.
