Area Baseball: Gobblers take 2 from Cards

AITKIN—A three-run seventh inning wasn't enough to prevent the Staples-Motley Cardinals from being swept by the Aitkin Gobblers 10-0, 11-9 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Wednesday, April 24.

The Gobblers jumped out to a 10-4 lead after four innings of Game Two. The Cardinals clipped away with two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh, but came up short.

Aitkin's Joey Simonson finished 3-3 with an RBI and Carter Dox was 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Owen Miller went 2-4 with an RBI. Quin Miller was 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored and Kyle Cluff was 1-3 with two walks and two runs scored for Aitkin.

S-M's Connor Fox went 2-3 with two RBIs, two walks and a run. Joshua Kossan was 2-4 with two RBIs. Cade Schmidt finished 2-5 with a run and an RBI and Owen Bjerga and Brayden Christensen each collected two hits.

In Game One, Tate Kuppich pitched the four-hit shutout. He walked four and struck out seven.

Carter Dox went 2-4 with three RBIs, a double and a run scored. Quin Miller finished 2-3 with two RBIs and Jake Ince was 1-1 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Carter Olson, Jon Blanchette and Kuppich all finished with two hits for Aitkin.

S-M's Joshua Kossan finished 2-3 and Tom Kossan and Ryan Wick posted the Cardinals' other hits.
