AVON -- Logan Kalis tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout for the Fort Ripley Rebels who advanced to Sunday’s Region 8C Championship game with a 5-0 win over the Buckman Billygoats Saturday, Aug. 10.
Kalis struck out four, walked two and only allowed one hit to leave the infield.
The Rebels are guaranteed no less than the second seed from Region 8 in the upcoming State Class C Tournament. To win the 8C title, they needed to beat the Nisswa Lightning twice Sunday, Aug. 11.
Zach Heidmann and Rhett Williamson both went 2-4 with solo homers in the seventh inning for the final two Fort Ripley runs.
An RBI single by Williamson in the second plated the first run for the Rebels. Nick Jelacie drove in a run with a fielder's choice ground out in the fourth and Brett Kramer scored from second on an error in the fifth to make it 3-0.
With the loss, Buckman is slotted in as the No. 3 seed out of Region 8 and Avon will be the No. 4 seed heading into the State Tournament beginning Friday. Aug. 16.

AVON -- Matt Tautges struck out 12 and allowed just five hits in a complete game performance for the Buckman Billygoats who defeated the Avon Lakers 3-2 in an elimination round game of the Region 8C Tournament Saturday, Aug. 10.
Avon got on the board early when Matt Meyer led off the game with a double and one hour later Taylor Holthaus belted a two-run homer. Josh Becker added a two-out single, but was stranded when Tautges finished the inning with a strikeout.
That would be the extent of the Laker offense as Tautges pitched a shutout and allowed just two more hits for the rest of the game.
Shawn Lanners put Buckman on the board with a two-out solo blast in the bottom of the second.
Aaron Weber drove in the tying run in the seventh with a slow grounder up the middle and Lanners singled in the winning run with a one-out single down the left field line. Lanners was the only player for either team to finish with multiple hits.
