Area Baseball: Aitkin doubles up C-I

Jon Blanchette went 5-6 with a double and four RBIs for the Aitkin Gobblers who cruised past the Crosby-Ironton Rangers 12-2 and 14-3 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Friday, May 10, at Mills Field in Brainerd.

Blanchette was 3-3 with a double and three RBIs in the first game. Winning pitcher Quinn Miller also drove in three as he went 2-4 with a double and triple. Carter Olson was 2-4 with a double and Owen Miller singled twice.

Nate Williams went 2-3 with a triple for C-I.

Carter Olson went 2-2 with a double and single. Both hits coming in the second inning when the Gobblers broke a 3-3 tie with 10 runs. He finished the game with three stolen bases and scored three runs.

Blanchette and Kupich had multiple hits and Kyle Cluff doubled for Aitkin, which is 6-0 in the conference.

Dietrich Winegarner and Jonathan Jacobson ripped doubles for two of C-I's five hits.

Little Falls 2, Detroit Lakes 1

FERGUS FALLS—Thomas Kunkel struck out seven to lead the Little Falls Flyers to a 2-1 win over the Detroit Lakes Lakers in a non-conference game Friday, May 10.

Sam Nagel and Mason Dempsey collected the Flyers' two hits and Ben Peterson and Joshua Jennings scored the runs.

Little Falls 11, Fergus Falls 1

FERGUS FALLS—Caleb Strack finished 1-3 with three RBis and struck out six as the Little Falls Flyers defeated the Fergus Falls Otters 11-1 in a non-conference win Friday, May 10.

Thomas Kunel scored three times and Travis Wenzel drove in a run for Little Falls.

Pierz takes two

PIERZ—Derek Schommer went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Pierz Pioneers to a 10-1, 17-0 Central Minnesota Conference sweep of the Kimball Cubs Friday, May 10.

Luke Girtz finished 3-4 with one RBI and a triple and Jonah Prokott struck out eight in Game One. Reese Kapsner went 2-3 with two RBis and a run and Schommer was 3-4 with three RBis and two runs. Jonah Prokott struck out eight in three innings of work. He allowed run run on three hits and one walk.

In Game Two, Brandon Stuckmayer struck out 10. He allowed one hit and no runs.

Kapsner finished 2-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Cody Kimman was 1-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Peter Schommer doubled and finished 1-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Derek Schommer was 3-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored.

Isaac Otte also doubled and finished 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

PILLAGER—Cade Barrett smashed a two-run home run to pace the Pillager Huskies in a 7-4 Park Region Conference loss to the Ottertail Central Bulldogs Friday, May 10.

Ty Swenson went 1-2 with a double and two runs and Brady Wermter drove in a run for Pillager.

Sam Jensen struck out four for the Huskies.
