Former Brainerd Warriors pitcher Nick Anderson is in his first season in the major leagues as a relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Anderson struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth inning of the Rays’ 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Anderson entered with the score tied 3-3 so he didn’t factor in the decision. He threw 13 pitches, 10 for strikes.

He know has 99 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings pitched. Anderson’s ERA dropped to 3.07 in his 60 appearances. He is 5-4 with one save and 12 holes. He’s allowed 46 hits, 20 earned runs and 16 walks, three intentional.

Tampa Bay is 87-59 and eight games behind the New York Yankees for first in the American League East.

The Rays are leading the Wild Card race by a game and half over Oakland and have won six straight and nine of their last 10 games.
