Isaac Hanson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the Brainerd VFW 16Us 10-4 win over Buffalo VFW Thursday, July 16, at Mills Field in Brainerd.

Jack Schafer started and pitched four innings getting the win. He allowed two run on six hits and struck out six. He also drove in Brainerd’s first run in the bottom of the first with a double.

Schafer worked his way out of a jam in the fourth inning. After three straight singles by Buffalo Schafer induced a double play followed by a strikeout to only allow one run.

Brainerd scored four runs in the first inning highlighted by Schafer’s double. He later scored on a passed ball making it 2-0.

After two walks, Gavin Berg ripped a two-run single to give Brainerd a comfortable cushion to start the game.

Brainerd scored in every inning, but the bottom of the sixth. Hanson’s RBI double came in the second and Nash Sletton scored Berg with a single in the third.

In the fourth, Jon Benson ripped a RBI triple that scored Carter Springer from first.

After two walks and hit by pitch loaded the bases in the fifth, Hanson walked to get his second RBI of the game and Springer ripped a single scoring two more.

Adam Jenson came on in relief of Schafer and pitched two innings and allowed two runs on two hits. He walked two and hit two batters as well.

Buffalo threatened again in the sixth inning. They had the bases loaded with one out after a dropped third strike and two walks. Another walk scored a run, but the next batter hit into a line drive double play to end the inning.

Mitch Deagan pitched the seventh inning and allowed no runs on one hit.

Brainerd’s 15U VFW team fell 4-3 to Buffalo the game after.

Brainerd VFW sweeps St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD — Brainerd VFW 16U used a seven run sixth inning to win 11-6 over St. Cloud Tuesday, July 14.

Mitchell Deagan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Isaac Hanson 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the seventh.

Matt Karlson started and pitched three innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out seven.

Brainerd VFW 15U won 6-2 in the second game.
