Former Brainerd Warriors pitcher Nick Anderson is in his second season in the major leagues as a relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Anderson pitched the ninth inning of Game Two of the American League Championship Series Monday, Oct. 12.
He allowed three hits and two walks but gave up just one run to earn a save in the Rays’ 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros.
Anderson threw 18 pitches, eight for strikes. After giving up three consecutive singles to start the inning, Anderson induced a double-play and then got a line out to center to end the game.
It was Anderson’s first postseason save. In five postseason games this season, Anderson has struck out six batters in 8.1 innings. He’s allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks for a 3.24 ERA.
He has two holds to go with his one save.
