Isaac Hanson struck out nine in seven innings of shutout baseball to pitch the Brainerd 16U VFW team to a 1-0 Game One victory over Princeton in the Sub-District 6 best of three series Wednesday, July 21, in Brainerd.

Brainerd then closed the season on Princeton with a 7-6 Game Two victory. Brainerd opened a 5-3 lead and added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and hung on to advance to the District 6 Tournament which starts 11 a.m. Monday, July 26 in Cold spring.

In Game One, Jon Benson drove in Brody Lund for the lone run of the game. Mitchell Brau doubled for the other Brainerd hit.

“Isaac was in good control on the mound and his pace was outstanding,” said VFW head coach Trent Grams. “Johnny Benson hit a big RBI single as well.”

In Game Two, Henry Hopkins went 2-3 with a run and Lund scored twice. Keaton Lingenfelter hit a two-run double and scored himself.

Brau pitched the victory. He allowed six runs, four earned, on 11 hits and no walks. He struck out three in 5.2 innings.

Lund pitched the final 1.1 innings. He allowed two hits and a walk. He struck out one for Brainerd.
