Basketball: Lakewood last unbeaten standing
Two of the top point guards in Staples-Motley Cardinals recent history combined to help keep Lakewood Health System perfect in the YMCA men's league standings.
Jeff Brever finished with 18 points and four rebounds and Jordan Rewier added 15 points and nine boards to lead Lakewood Health to a 71-65 victory over Justin, Clasen and Company.
JCC was led by Luke Schramm's 16 points and six rebounds and Jake Freeman added 13 points and seven boards.
Holiday Inn Express handed Lakes Chiropractic its first loss—56-54. Jacob Ali posted 14 points and eight rebounds and Shamor Newman added 13 and 2 for the win.
Darsean Woodson led Lakes Chiropractic with 25 points and nine rebounds. Riley Kline went for 13 and 4.
Moe's Contracting/Cornerstone Liquor topped 9th St. Social Club 53-44 with Mark Hoge's 30 points and eight rebounds leading the way. Wayne Ward added 10 and 2 to improve to 6-1.
