MINNEAPOLIS -- Napheesa Collier scored 19 points, pulled down five rebounds and notched four steals as the Minnesota Lynx cruised to an 86-70 win over the Dallas Wings Thursday night, Aug. 22.
Four other players scored in double figures for Minnesota: Damiris Dantas (17 points), Danielle Robinson (14) and Sylvia Fowles (12). Fowles also provided a dominant effort on the defensive end as she grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
The Lynx improved to 14-15 overall and 8-6 on their home court. They snapped a three-game losing streak.
Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points on 6-for-14 shooting to lead the Wings (9-19). Allisha Gray added 16 points and Kaela Davis has 12 for Dallas, which dropped to 1-13 on the road as it sunk to next-to-last place in the WNBA standings.
Minnesota led comfortably for most of the night. The Lynx built a 26-17 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 47-32 advantage by halftime.
Dallas trailed by double digits the rest of the way but was only outscored 39-38 in the second half.
Fowles helped Minnesota jump to a 14-3 lead in the first four minutes. She caught a lob pass in the paint, spun beneath the basket and sank a finger-roll layup to punctuate the early outburst.
As Fowles overpowered Dallas in the paint, Dantas poured in jump shots from the perimeter. Dantas sank 3 of 5 shots from beyond the arc, including a swish from the left wing to make it 50-32 early in the third quarter.
Dallas refused to quit despite its large deficit. Ogunbowale secured a 20-plus-point game when she squared up from the top of the key and calmly sank a 3-pointer to reduce the deficit to 79-63 with less than five minutes to play.
Minnesota shot 47.8 percent (32 of 67) from the field. Dallas shot 42.4 percent (25 of 59).
