A group of seven Crosby-Ironton fifth graders dominated the five state region to win the Pacesetter Great Five State Tournament Saturday, June 22, at Target Center in Minneapolis.
The team of Veronica Millsop, Lucy Lewandowski, Sammie Hachey, Kirsten Nixon, Ryley Bartels, Tori Oerhlein and Emma Silgen defeated Mobridge-Pollack of South Dakota in the Great Five State finals 40-19.
C-I qualified for the tournament by winning the Minnesota Tournament.
The Great Five State Tournament brings together top teams from Pacesetter's state tournaments in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa. More than 650 teams in grades 4-9 participated in the regional tournaments that preceded the state tournaments.
C-I won the state title by defeating Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 31-26 in championship game. They advanced to the title game by defeating Lanesboro 29-14 and Stewartville 35-24.
