The Brainerd seventh-grade boys basketball team won the Pacesetter Minnesota State Championship Sunday, June 23, to advance to the Great Five-State Championships.

Brainerd defeated Stewartville 48-36 in the championship game. They topped Byron 50-28 and Annandale 48-42 to reach the finals.

The team is Nate Herkenhoff, Brandon Stark, Dylan Gross, Eli Hoelz, Bennett Bernander, Jameson Dale, Bardy Rushin and Jake Merseth.

The top two teams in the state tournament advance to the Great Five-State to take on teams from Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.

The seventh-grade boys tournament will be held July 13-14 at Maple Grove Middle School and Target Center.
