Beimert Outdoors looks to see increased traffic at their new location next to the Corner Store Depot at the corner of County Road 18 and Highway 210.

The new location, about 6 miles west of Brainerd, is actually their old location, where the outdoors business first started.

"We started here in 1983," business owner Brent Beimert said. "We were here for 23 years."

They built the business with a gas station that included bait and tackle. It turned into an archery store as well as convenience store including groceries and anything else you might need for a good time in lakes country.

Beimert's sold that store and opened a new larger business 4 miles to the west in Pillager.

They were at that location for 11 years. Beimert said the decision to move back to the old location was due to the closer proximity to Brainerd, the increased traffic that the corner and convenience store brings and the opportunity to build a new facility with lower overhead costs.

Beimert added that the location should help their watercraft rental as well since they are even closer to the Gull Lake chain.

"We felt that it was a better location," Beimert said. "It's kinda fun being back on the corner."

The business is temporarily right next to the Corner Store Liquors building. Beimert said they will begin on a new building to the west of the gas station soon, with the hope of completion in about two months. So far, they have cleared trees from the site and began some prep work.

The new facility, planned to be about 3,000-square-feet, will include an indoor archery shooting range of up to 20 yards, as well as a 100-yard outdoor range.

Other than major physical changes, customers should find similar products and service from the outdoors store.

"We have all the same products with all the same services behind it," Beimert said. "I believe we have the best service in the area."

Their archery line includes Matthews, Hoyt, Mission, Fred Bear and PSE bows and TenPoint and Mission crossbows. As usual, they offer bow tuning in their full-service shop.

Other products include clothing and boots, deer plot materials, Green Mountain Grills and they have plans to expand their gun selection. They currently focus on muzzleloaders, but it's been Beimert's hope to expand their gun offerings.

There are currently three busy employees, but Beimert said he expects business to increase and believes he will be adding more employees soon.

Chad Knutson owns Corner Store Depot and Corner Store Liquors. Beimert said the combination of businesses on the corner feed off each other and work well together. He is happy to move back in and lease the buildings from Knutson.

With the Corner Store Depot offering gas, bait, food and beverages and Beimert Outdoors offering watercraft rental and all things to get you into the woods, it should continue to be a busy stop in lakes country.

Beimert said they also have boat and snowmobile storage on site. They offer jet ski, pontoon and speed boat rental on a daily or weekly basis.

The store is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through much of the season and later during the heat of the fall hunting season.

Beimert's old building near Pillager was purchased by Encounter Ministries, who were temporarily meeting in Pillager. The Eden Church - School of Transformation meets there Sunday mornings.
