Biathlon: Christiansen wins Elk River race

Cam Christiansen of Nisswa, skiing for Nisswa Northwest Biathlon, won the 11.4km pursuit race Sunday at Elk River.

Christiansen, 19, shot 0,1,0,2, and finished in 39:25 to edge out Jakob Ellingson of Mt. Itasca Biathlon, who finished in 40:14 and shot 0,1,0,0. The two shot the same for the first three stages and were head to head until the last shooting. Christiansen left the range just ahead of Ellingson, but had two 150-meter penalty loops to do before returning to the race loop. He caught Ellingson about 1k from the finish line.

Evan Ingebrigtson of Baxter and NNW, finished third overall in 51:43 shooting 2,0,2,3, and won the Masters division.

In the Women's 9.3km event, Siena Ellingson of Mt. Itasca shot 2,2,0,0, and finished in 36:48 to edge Hanne Guthrie of NNW who shot 2,0,2,2, and finished in 37:19. Guthrie led until the third stage when Ellingson cleaned her five targets and caught her coming out of the penalty loop.

In the Boys/Girls 7.1km event, Kaisa Bosek, 14, finished first in 39:02 shooting 2,0,3,2, to finish ahead of Cheresa Bouley, 15, who finished in 51:57 shooting 4,3,2,3.

The next events will be the annual fall festival Oct. 29-30 with races in Nisswa and Elk River.
