Biathlon: Guthrie Wins Minnesota Cup No. 5

Hanne Guthrie, Nisswa Northwest Biathlon, won the 10km pursuit format in Nisswa Jan. 28.

Guthrie shot 2,1,3,2, and finished in 39:02 to overcome Owen Baird, Brainerd, who missed 14 and finished in 43:13.

In the 7km pursuit format for senior girls and boys, Devin Emslander, NNW, shot 5,5, 2,4, and finished in 36:25.
The next events are Feb. 18-19 at Madison, Wis.

Christiansen finishes in Slovenia

Cam Christiansen of the Nisswa Northwest Biathlon and U.S. Biathlon Junior teams, finished the three International Biathlon Union Cup Junior races in Slovenia last weekend.

Thursday he will move on to the Open European Junior Championships in the Czech Republic.
In the mixed relay, the U.S. finished eighth, 9:05 behind the Russian team. Christiansen was the anchor leg and got the tag off in eighth place. He missed one shot each in prone and standing and finished eighth.

In the 10km men's sprint race Jan. 28, Christiansen shot 1,0, and finished 51st, 4:10 behind the Russian winner.
In the 10km men's sprint Jan. 29, he shot 0,1, and finished 43rd 3:28 behind the Russian winner.
After the Open European Junior Championships, Christiansen will have a 2-week layover in the Prague area and then participate in the Youth and Junior World Championships in Orslbie, Slovakia.
