PINE RIVER -- The Pine River-Backus Tigers boys' basketball team improved to 18-3 overall with a 74-68 non-conference win over the Aitkin Gobblers on Friday.

Derek Wangberg paced the Tigers with 23 points and Joe Bueckers added 20 for PR-B.
Brandon Siemers was the leading scorer for Aitkin with 23 points.

Leading scorer for the Rangers was Reid Kuschel with 20 points. Luke Millsop scored 13 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds.
C-I made 21-48 (43 percent) field goals and shot 13-17 (76 percent) from the line.
Deer Rivers' Jess Huju led the Warriors with 20 points.

BARRETT -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals defeated the West Central Knights 59-51 in a non-conference clash Friday.
"I think this was a great win for our kids," said SM coach Lynn Peterson. "We had foul trouble." S-M had 23 fouls and two players fouled out.
Cardinals played without point guard Jeff Brever who sprained his ankle.
Leading the Cardinals was Shannon Webster with 20 points and Dustin Hjelmeland with 19 points. "The entire ball game Webster and (Wade) Christensen both did great," said Peterson.
"Bobby Jares, Nate Grandlund and Evan Frisk came off the bench and did what they needed to do," said Peterson.
