SAUK RAPIDS-Joey Sauer tied the school record for most points in a game to lead the Brainerd Warriors to a 96-91 Central Lakes Conference overtime victory over the Sauk Rapids Storm Friday, Dec. 7.
Sauer finished with 41 points on 15-of-27 shooting. The senior forward added seven rebounds, three assists, six steals and two blocked shots helping Brainerd to its first win of the season.
"We wanted to get him some early looks and those early looks turned into baskets," Warrior head coach Charlie Schoeck said. "We just kept trying to run plays for him and get him in spots to be successful.
"He came out of the game with a lot of assists so he was finding his teammates. It was an overall great game."
Sauer's 41 points ties Dale Brown's record of 41 points in a single game. Brown did his damage against Granite Falls Dec. 28, 1961.

Mason Malone added 17 points and six assists and Owen Davis scored 15 points to go with four rebounds and three steals.
Brainerd shot 45.8 percent from the field and got to the foul line 22 times and connected on 16 of those.
"Joey and Mason, both senior captains, they did exactly what you want senior captains to do when you need a win," Schoeck said. "They both had huge games. That was great to see and great for the kids to get some confidence going here."
Connor Powers came off the bench to score nine points as the Warriors bolted out to a 50-37 halftime lead.
