COLD SPRING-Jack Evans was medalist with a par-72 for Brainerd and the Warriors opened their season with a first-place 307 during Tuesday's Central Lakes Conference meet at Rich Spring Golf Course.
"In that kind of weather, and for the first meet, that was an amazing performance for him," said Brainerd head coach Brian Wallace. "He played steady all day and didn't let anything bother him. He just put a great round together.
"The team score coming out for the first round and shooting a 307 was absolutely astounding. Four scores in the top seven - that's pretty darn good shooting."
Andrew Muesing finished third with a 76 for the Warriors, Joe Foley was fourth with a 79 and seventh-grader Erik Stoxen placed seventh with an 80 in his varsity debut.
"My drives off the tee weren't great, but my irons made up for it," said Evans. "It was great to get off to a start like this, but I was just trying to put a score in the top four so that our team would place well."
