COLD SPRING — Erik Stoxen’s even-par 72 has the Brainerd Warriors sitting in a tie for first place after the opening round of the Section 8-3A Tournament Tuesday, June 1, at Rich-Spring Golf Club.
Cole Proctor fired a 75 followed by Turner Person’s 76 and Evan Quinn’s 82 for Brainerd’s 305, which is tied with Alexandria for the first-round lead. Moorhead is two shots back at 307.
Two bogeys on the front had Stoxen going out in 38, but four birdies on the back nine to go with two bogeys had the Warrior senior sitting tied for third individually.
Proctor posted back-to-back birdies on holes 2 and 3 to shoot a 1-under 35 on the front. A back nine 40 placed Proctor three shots behind Stoxen in sixth place.
Seventh-place belongs to Person who recorded four birdies, six pars and eight bogeys.
