EVELETH -- The Brainerd Warriors boys' hockey team dropped its second straight game 4-2 to the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears in a non-conference contest Wednesday.
Brainerd trailed 3-1 through two periods. Brian Reese scored at 6:11 of the third period for the Warriors before the Bears' Kyle Hawley scored on a power play with 59 seconds left to put the game away.
"It was very similar to our Alexandria game (7-5 loss), but it was not as well played of a game," Brainerd coach Ty Eigner said. "We played poorly for two periods. We came out in the third and played well. We battled our way back but just couldn't do it. It was just like Alexandria had opportunities against us. They scored three goals on 10 shots."
Tom Zaleski scored the only other Warrior goal at 7:11 of the opening period.
Hawley had a hat trick for Eveleth-Gilbert, which hadn't scored a goal in eight periods.
