Boys Hockey: 2 Flyers make section 1st team

Section 6-1A announced its postseason boys' hockey awards.

Senior forward Nick Stevens and senior goalie Dane Couture were named first-team members of the All-Section 6-1A boys hockey team.

Stevens was joined by Michael DeBrito of Fergus Falls, Zach Bruns of Morris/Benson and Cullin Hiltner of St. Cloud Cathedral as first-team forwards.

Sartell’s Michael Webster and Connor Hacker were first-team defensemen.

Wadena-Deer Creek’s Kade Woods and Wyatt Murray swept the second-team defenseman squad.

Isaac Young and Isaac Johnson of Fergus Falls and Alexandria’s Josiah Gronholz were second-team forwards and Quintin Sigurdson of Sartell, Ben Swanson of Fergus Falls and Josh Venable of River Lakes were second-team goaltenders.

Earning honorable mention from Little Falls were Matt Filippi, Hayden Johnson, Robby Kuchinski-Helgeson, Joe Majerle and George Moore.

W-DC’s Daunte Leiran and Cole Woods were also honorable mention selections.

In his final season as head coach of the Flyers, Tony Couture was named Section 6-1A Coach of the Year.

The Flyers finished the season 14-5-1 overall, 8-0-1 in the section. They concluded their season in the Class 1A state semifinals.

W-DC finished with a 4-13-1 overall record and 2-7-1 section record.
