Boys Hockey: Ball's hat trick not enough in Warrior loss

GRAND RAPIDS--Cole Ball turned in a hat trick in the Brainerd Warriors 6-5 loss to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in a battle between two Class 2A ranked teams Wednesday.

GRAND RAPIDS-Cole Ball turned in a hat trick in the Brainerd Warriors 6-5 loss to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in a battle between two Class 2A ranked teams Wednesday.

Grand Rapids entered the game ranked 12th and Brainerd was ranked 19th.

All three of Ball's scores came in the first period, which was tied 3-3 at the intermission.

Sam Selisker pulled Brainerd to 5-4 in the third and Josh Howieson put in the final goal with 9:36 remaining, but the Warriors were unable to even it up despite pulling goalie Brady MicK with 1:03 remaining.

The Thunderhawks outshot Brainerd 39-33. Mick made 32 saves for the 6-3-1 Warriors.
