Boys Hockey: Knights end Warriors season

The Brainerd Warriors traveled to St. Michael-Albertville for the Section 8-2A quarterfinals.

ALBERTVILLE — Max Roby scored seven minutes into the third period on an assist from Max Jones and the No. 6 seeded Brainerd Warriors cut No. 3 seeded St.Michael-Albertville Knights’ lead to 3-1 in the Section 8-2A quarterfinals Wednesday, March 17.

But the Knights came back with two late goals and the Warriors saw their season end with a 5-1 loss. The Knights also defeated the Warriors 7-0 March 9.

Brainerd put 20 shots on the Knights’ net and Warrior goaltender Jed Klang totaled 34 saves.

“I am really proud of the kids,” Warriors head coach Dave Aus said. “It was basically a new team this year and with only 18 games and limited practice due to COVID, I thought they overachieved and we played well tonight.”
