Boys Hockey: Warriors rally to beat Willmar

WILLMAR - Cole Ball scored twice to spark a Brainerd rally from a 2-0 deficit and the Warriors ended a two-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Willmar Cardinals in a Central Lakes Conference game Thursday.

Also scoring for the Warriors were Josh Howieson and Eric Stout, who put in an empty netter to cap the comeback.

Registering assists were Seth Desrocher, Cole Kalenberg and Mitchell Andres.

Brady Mick collected 28 saves as both teams finished with 30 shots on goal.

Willmar jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead with its second goal coming when Brainerd was short-handed after a major penalty.

"This was three games in a row with a major and that's part of the reason we've struggled lately," said first-year Brainerd head coach Dave Aus. "I was proud of the way the guys responded after some adversity at the start. Willmar was ready to play and I'm not sure we were at the start.

"We played well the second half and this should help our confidence a little."
