Ian Foster and Mason Malone scored the only two goals for Brainerd in the Warriors 9-2 loss to the defending Class 1A state champion St. Cloud Apollo Eagles in a Central Lakes Conference match at Adamson Field Friday.
Foster's goal pulled the Warriors to within 2-1 at the half and Foster's kept the score close at 3-2 in the second.
"They're (Apollo) still strong and fast," said Brainerd coach Tom Grausam. "We were right up there with them until the 60 minute mark at 3-2 when the heat took its toll and we were missing a couple of players."
"The boys showed what they were made of and they came back with a good effort after the loss to Rocori."
The Eagles outshot the Warriors 30-5 and Brainerd goalkeeper Noah Sundberg was credited with 21 saves.
