Boys Soccer: Warriors shut out Storm for first win

Corey Tollefsrud and Riley Sloan netted goals for Brainerd, giving the Warriors their first win of the season, 2-0 over the Sauk Rapids Storm in a Central Lakes Conference game Thursday night at Adamson Field.

Corey Tollefsrud and Riley Sloan netted goals for Brainerd, giving the Warriors their first win of the season, 2-0 over the Sauk Rapids Storm in a Central Lakes Conference game Thursday night at Adamson Field.

Tollefsrud scored unassisted in the 28th minute and Sloan added the insurance goal with an assist from Andy Schlosser in the second half.

Goalie Joe Anderholm turned aside all eight shots by the Storm for the shutout while Brainerd put 13 shots on goal.

"The team played extremely well," said Brainerd head coach Tony Smith. "Defensively the team was solid and Joe made some key saves that allowed us to get the clean sheet."

Brainerd had been outscored 20-1 in its first two games.

"We've been emphasizing keeping possession in practice and that showed tonight as we possessed the ball through the midfield very well," said Smith. We played more composed and the way we want Brainerd soccer to look."
