ELK RIVER — Eight Brainerd swimmers, led by Mason Kuepers and Tristan Dawson, will be swimming for a chance to go to state Saturday following the
Section 8-2A prelims Friday, Feb. 21.
Kuepers posted the fastest prelim time in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:56.97 and is sitting second in the 200 free. Dawson led the field with a 54.13 in the 100 backstroke and is fourth in the 100 butterfly.
The top eight swimmers advance to the championship heat, while the next eight swimmers will compete in the consolation heat.
Thomas Ruhl is third in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 individual medley.

Cade Rosenwald is currently fourth in the 200 IM and sixth in the butterfly while Dylan Paulson qualified for the 100 (fifth) and 50 (seventh) freestyles.
Parker Tatge is fifth in the 100 breaststroke and just made the cut with an eighth-place showing in the 200 individual medley.
Connor Lund will be swimming in the 100 free finals after placing fourth. He finished the 50 free tied for eighth with St. Michael-Albertville’s Jaden Herman. The two had a swim off with Herman qualifying for the championship heat and Lund dropping to the consolations.
The Warriors posted the second-fastest times behind Maple Grove in the 200 medley relay (Dawson, Tatge, Rosenwold and Paulson) and the 400 free relay (Paulson, Dawson, Rosenwold and Ruhl).
Noe Sorge joined Lund, Tatge and Kuepers on the 200 free relay, which is third.
