ALEXANDRIA — Brainerd’s double team RJ Campbell-Beck Barber and single Matthew Moraghan advanced to the Section 8-2A individual tournament after both placed third in the North Subsection 8-2A individual tournament Friday, May 28, in Alexandria.
Moraghan was seeded fifth and won his opening round match 6-2, 6-3 over Zak Farley of Sartell.
He followed that up by beating fourth-seeded Reed Henderson of Detroit Lakes 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Moraghan fell in the semifinals to top-seeded Filippo Buffo of Bemidji, but bounced back to beat second-seeded Ives Hilgers of Moorhead 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 for third.
The Campbell-Barber tandem were seeded second and earned a bye into the quarterfinals. In their quarterfinals match, they defeated Brody Hanson-Mason Voxland of Moorhead 6-0, 6-1.

Campbell and Barber fell in the semifinals 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Bemidji’s Michael Dickinson-Logan Jenson. Campbell and Barber knocked off fourth-seeded Pieter Mulder and Andrew Wegner of Alexandria to get third.
Brainerd’s Karlton Anderson beat Alexandria’s Owen Gilbertson in the opening round of the singles tournament before falling to top-seeded Buffo in the quarterfinals.
The doubles team of Eli McConkey and Clark Haglin fell in the opening round to Austin Miller and Jordan Fields of Detroit Lakes for Brainerd.
Campbell-Barber and Moraghan will each be No. 3 seeds in the Section 8-2A individual tournament scheduled for Thursday, June 3. Both will play No. 2 seeds from the South Subsection 8-2A individual tournament.
