ST. CLOUD-It's been nine years, but the Brainerd Warriors finally claimed a win over Central Lakes Conference rival St. Cloud Tech, winning 4-3 in a Section 8-2A matchup Wednesday.

With the match tied 3-3, Patrick Moraghan and Ian Aadlund battled through three sets at No. 2 doubles to eke out a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 deciding win.

Until Wednesday, the Warriors had lost their last 16 meets against Tech. Brainerd's last wins against Tech were 5-2 April 21, 2009, and 5-2 May 12, 2009.

"All our guys across the board played well," said Bruce Thompson, head coach of the 3-0 Warriors. "We were feeling good after No. 4 singles (Keenan Hodge) had just finished with a win to tie the match 3-3 before that."

Tanner Lundberg, Jacob Hodge and Keenan Hodge all won their singles matches in straight sets for Brainerd.

"We finally had one practice outside on Monday with everybody," said Thompson. "We've probably only been on outdoor courts four or five times and it's already April 25, but it's the same for Tech."

The win improves Brainerd's record to 3-0, 1-0 in the CLC.

"We haven't hit our stride yet," Thompson added. "We will show improvement as the season progresses."

JV winners for Brainerd in doubles were Noah Joque-Oliver Schwab, Layton Rivard-Thomas Anakkala, Luke Meyer-Trey Pike, Clay Jambor-Devin Emslander, Logan Severson-Westin Andres, Noah Spitzley-Tenny Kelm and Ben Boberg-RJ Campbell.
