Cheer Team: Warriors headed back to nationals
Brainerd's cheer team competed at the UCA November Cheer Challenge
The Brainerd Warrior cheer team is headed back to Orlando, Florida.
Brainerd won the coed non-tumble division and placed fifth in the game day non-tumble category at the UCA November Cheer Challenge Nov. 21
“After making a routine change in our coed routine and only learning our game day routine two weeks prior to the November Challenge, I am so proud of these students for pushing through and earning not one, but two bids to the UCA High School National Cheerleading Championship, Brainerd head coach Carissa Ulness said. “To receive a bid, the team must participate in a UCA Camp. Then they must compete at a regional competition where they need to hit a minimum cut score and judges evaluate the placement and scores of the team in their division compared to other teams. This is to ensure that the highest standards are met for teams to earn a bid.”
This will be the fourth year Brainerd competes at the national level. In 2019 the Warriors placed fourth and in 2020 placed second virtually.
To help students with the expense of the trip the team is hosting its annual Cheers to a Night Out Fundraiser 5-11 p.m. Friday, Dec 10 at the Brainerd American Legion.
Dinner will be spaghetti alfredo, salad, breadstick and one drink for $15. There will be a silent auction, $1 raffle, meat raffle, 50/50 raffle, wine pull & reverse bingo.
Brainerd’s next competition will be Saturday, Dec. 4, at Prior Lake.
