Brainerd Warrior cheerleaders will open their competition season Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Frosty Fest at St. Michael-Albertville.
The Warriors are scheduled to compete in two additional regular-season meets before state competition Jan. 30 at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
"We are excited to start our competition season where both the JV and varsity squads will be competing as well as a stunt group composed of seniors Macy Kramer, Kate Smith, Kate Coffman and junior Lexi Groters," Warriors coach Deb Cervantez said. "All of the girls have been working very hard. We are confident that the varsity and the stunt group will be extremely competitive this year and represent the Brainerd lakes area well."
The team will be cheering at home boys basketball games this season after cheering at football games this fall.
"As well as sidelining for all home football games this season, these girls have put in time volunteering for many amazing causes," Cervantez said. "They were invited to come cheer on walkers for the Northern Lakes Arthritis Walk and the Brainerd Lakes Area Walk to End Alzheimer's. The girls participated in the Walk a Mile in her Shoes event as well. The JV and varsity rang bells for the Salvation Army to help raise money for the amazing work that they do.
