ST. PAUL-Staples-Motley's Millie Klefsaas repeated as pole vault champion with a another meet-record height and the Pequot Lakes Patriots placed second in the Class 1A state meet Saturday at Hamline University.
Klefsaas, who set a state record in 2016 at 12 feet, finished at 12-3 Saturday to earn the gold medal. She also finished sixth in the 100 hurdles.
The Patriots, who finished 7.5 points out of first, attained victories in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. The 4x200 consisted of Mirjana Ganley, Kristin Skog, Grace McGuire and Chloe Bermel. Running on the 4x400 were McGuire, Skog, Olivia Lane and Bermel. In the 400 dash, Bermel finished third.
Other area individuals achieving all-state status (top nine) included Pierz's seventh-place 4x200 relay of Breanna Kurtz, Leah Fuhrman, Avy Lease and Chelsie Kurtz); Pequot's Addie Hubbard in the 300 hurdles (seventh); Pierz's Beth-el Algarin (fourth) and Wadena-Deer Creek's Ellie Miron (ninth) in shot put; and Hubbard in triple jump (fifth).
