Class 1A Softball: Pillager denied consolation title

NORTH MANKATO--Kylie Woidyla finished 3-4 with an RBI, but the Kimball Cubs jumped out early and finished with a 9-3 victory over the Pillager Huskies Friday in the Class 1A state consolation championship.

NORTH MANKATO-Kylie Woidyla finished 3-4 with an RBI, but the Kimball Cubs jumped out early and finished with a 9-3 victory over the Pillager Huskies Friday in the Class 1A state consolation championship.

Kimball scored two first-inning runs and tacked on three in the fourth and one in the fifth before the Huskies answered with two in the sixth.

Emma Litke drove in a run and Ella Kilchesky and Hailea Books each collected a hit and a run for Pillager.

Kimball's Emily Utecht finished 2-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. She also pitched the victory. In five innings, she struck out 10, walked one and allowed two earned runs on five hits.

Pillager's Miranda Paananen struck out four, walked one and allowed six runs, three of them earned, on seven hits.
