Edina 4, Farmington 1
ST. PAUL-Top-seeded Edina held off a pesky Farmington team, 4-1 to advance to the semifinal round Thursday.
For the first 25 minutes, Edina was wondering what it had to do to score on Farmington and goaltender Abby Bollig who has been a major factor in the Tigers' success all year, facing an average of 21 shots per game while compiling a goals-against average of 1.62.
But then, Edina's Olivia Kilberg skated around a defender and beat Bollig on the Hornets' 23rd shot of the game.
The Tigers tied it 1-1 when while short-handed Farmington's Ellie Moser lobbed the puck beyond center ice. Edina netminder Anna Goldstein was tentative in her decision to play the puck or not. She attempted to poke check the puck at the top of the circle, but it fluttered down at the feet of Moser who swept it into the unguarded net.
Edina swarmed the offensive zone throughout the game. The Hornets broke Bollig four minutes into the final period when Lolita Fidler and Emily Oden scored 32 seconds apart.
Sophie Slattery recorded the final tally for Edina, which had a 53-16 advantage in shots.
