Brainerd Warrior Chad Orsburn bettered his ranking in the finals of the Class 3A individual state tournament Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The eighth-ranked junior 113-pounder attained a fifth-place finish with a fall at 3:54 over Mitch Engebretson of Mounds View. He finished 37-6.

Earlier Saturday, Orsburn lost by a 16-2 major decision in the semifinals to top-ranked Aaron Cashman of Shakopee.

"He really has wrestled well. He's had a great season," Warriors co-head coach Mike Boran said of Orsburn. "He got a section championship, then he went down to state and competed really well. He can be really happy and proud of what he's done. It was really a good season for him and a good finish."

On Day One Friday, the Warriors' Cole Kubesh (120) and Andy Schlosser (145) went 0-2 and were eliminated from the competition. Kubesh finished 32-6, Schlosser 17-10.

"Any time you have seniors who have been there before and competed there they're looking to improve a little bit," Boran said. "They got beat by some quality wrestlers. Sometimes that's the way the draw goes when you go down there.

"Cole got beat by the guy who took third and the guy who took fifth. Andy got beat by the guy who got fifth and the guy who took third. Going down there sometimes you get into a group of kids who are going to be a little tougher to get through. They competed well against them, they gave themselves a shot, and that was just the way it worked out."
