COON RAPIDS- Playing in his first state tournament, Brainerd's Gavin Metz was six over par with six holes left when severe weather suspended play Tuesday in the Class 3A state tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
Metz turned in a 41 on the West nine and went par-bogey-par on the first three holes of the East course when all players were pulled off the course.
"He had a two-stroke penalty on the front side because he hit the wrong ball," said Brainerd coach Brian Wallace. "We can chalk that up as a learning experience.
"He wasn't hitting the ball real well, but he settled right back down after the penalty and parred the next hole. On the bright side, when he resumes play (Wednesday), the first three holes are very playable for him."
Play not finished resumes where players were at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Enneking 10 over
BECKER-Pillager's Brady Enneking was sitting 10 over for the day when play was suspended Tuesday because of bad weather in the Class 1A state tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
He carded an 8-over-44 for the first nine holes and was two over on the back nine when play was suspended.
"He had some troubles with the greens on the front," said Pillager head coach Chris Berent. "It was unfortunate that play was suspended on the back because he had just parred four straight holes."
Information on the play of Brady Raph and Nate Brasel was unavailable.
