Former Brainerd Warriors Allison Kosobud and Sara Wennerstrand are among nominees for College of Saint Benedict Athlete of the Year.

Kosobud, who was named CSB's Rookie of the Year in 2014, qualified for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships for the second time in her career in 2016. She finished the season 17th in the 1,500.

As a junior, Kosobud earned All-MIAC honors in the 1,000 at the indoor meet and in the 800 at the conference outdoor championships, and earned honorable mention in three other events. She set school records in the 800 and 1,500 this outdoor season. Kosobud is also a member of the CSB cross country team.

Wennerstrand had another big year at the plate for the CSB softball team in 2016. She earned All-MIAC First Team and All-Region Third Team honors, and tied the school record with 45 RBIs in a season. She finished second in the MIAC in RBIs, and fourth in the league with 15 doubles.

Athlete of the year nominees are sophomores, juniors and seniors from all 11 of the Blazers' varsity sports, and were nominated by coaches and athletic department staff. The winner will be announced June 16.
