College Baseball: Peterson pitches 1-hit shutout

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa--Luther College right-hander Blake Peterson of Baxter pitched a 1-hit shutout to remain unbeaten as the Norse defeated Coe College 3-0 April 22.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-Luther College right-hander Blake Peterson of Baxter pitched a 1-hit shutout to remain unbeaten as the Norse defeated Coe College 3-0 April 22.

Peterson extended his scoreless innings streak to 22 innings-a streak that dates back to April 6. He has allowed just eight hits in four appearances since April 6, including a no-hitter against Simpson April 16.

The only hit Peterson allowed was a 1-out single in the sixth. Coe did not advance a runner past second base. Peterson finished with seven strikeouts and four walks. The victory raised his record to 5-0 with a 2.47 ERA.

On April 19, he earned a save in Luther's 2-1 win over Wartburg College. He faced four batters, allowing a walk and no hits and no runs in one inning.

In nine appearances (7 starts) this spring, Peterson has pitched three shutouts, three complete games, with one save. In 47.1 innings, he has allowed 27 hits, 13 earned runs and 23 walks, with 46 strikeouts. Opponents are batting just .166 against him.
