TUCSON — The Central Lakes College Raiders finished out their trip to Tucson with two close games Thursday, March 12, but fell 4-2 to Eastern Arizona College and 8-7 to Bryant & Stratton College.

Hunter Wicklund led the Raiders offensively in the game with Eastern College with two hits and an RBI. He and Luke Girtz each tallied doubles. Jonathan Lerma gave up just one hit and two earned runs in six innings of pitching.

A base hit by Phillip Zynda in the game against Bryant & Stratton College scored Wicklund, but CLC gave up a run in the top of the seventh to take the 8-7 loss.

Zynda finished with three hits and two RBIs. Wicklund, Austin Dickmann and Girtz all tallied two hits. Girtz and Zynda each tripled.

The Raiders’ two games on Friday were canceled due to unplayable conditions. It is not clear when CLC’s next game will be due to the coronavirus. All NJCAA games have been postponed up until April 3.

The team finished 1-7 on the trip, but Raiders head coach Brian Voigt was very pleased with the progress of his team.

“The play this week was good. We have some things to work on and that was shown this week and to have some close games with good teams is a good sign,” Voigt said.

“We showed that we can bounce back within the same day and still play well. Overall we hit very well and are leaving with a .305 team batting average, which is a sign of good things to come. We had some good pitching performances and once we get to midseason form it will be exciting to see this team play.”
