MOORHEAD - Former Brainerd Warrior Conor Gessell ran 38 yards for the go-ahead touchdown and the Concordia College Cobbers held off 23rd-ranked Bethel 23-21 Saturday.
The touchdown was Gessell's only carry of the game. He has played in four games this season with 14 carries for 86 yards (6.1 average).
The victory ended Concordia's six-game losing streak to the Royals dating back to 2008. It moved the Cobbers' overall record to 3-1 and to 2-1 in conference play. Bethel slipped to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC.
The Cobbers travel to Northfield Saturday to play Carleton which was defeated by Gustavus 63-14 last week and is 1-4 overall. Concordia has not lost to Carleton since 2008, a game the Cobbers dropped 41-28 in Moorhead.
